I have been thinking that maybe you might see the wisdom of using the word ‘novel’ or, even better, ‘story’ in the few spots on the application where the more friendly and ‘writerly’ term would be better than the ‘techie’ term, ‘template’. No, I ma not suggesting that you lose the word TEMPLATE altogether – just in those places where the software speaks directly to the writer as it gives specific instructions or invites the writer to perform an action or make a choice. I’m thinking, ‘I don’t want to start a new Template, I want to start a new Story – or Novel.’

So I am suggesting that maybe, START A NEW STORY is better than Start a new Template in the example above.

‘Open an Saved Story’, is probably better than Open a Template.

The use of novel instead of story may be a better fit with the application – but Story is softer and makes a writer feel like this application is serving his or her needs rather than the writer feeling like an obedient servant of the software.

Your software guru could do a GREP on the word, template, and make the changes in a very short time.
